Yellow Eyed Grass Family - Xyridaceae - Unbranched herbs. Leaves basil, iris-like, 2 ranked. Flowers in a single terminal cone-like head, each on the axil of a tough, woody scale. Petals yellow, exerted at the brief flowering time. - (1 genus in Vermont)

Common Yellow Eyed Grass - X. difformis - (not to be confused with X. caroliniana) - Also called: Bog Yellow-eyed Grass

Small Yellow Eyed Grass - X. montana - Uncommon. Found on sandy shores of ponds and bogs.
